AI has become a dominant topic in creative circles, specifically regarding concerns around ethics and how it affects how we develop and create new ideas. Currently motion design seems to be somewhat overlooked, but as the technology evolves, so does its applications.
We posed this question on our Instagram stories and received some great insights from the community. To delve deeper, we invited those who participated to openly share their thoughts.
How do we see AI playing a role in our industry, if at all?
*Consensus of sentiments towards the future of AI in motion design.
“I think that even if you hate it and don’t like it, at some point, you will have to get on board because let’s face it, it’s really not going to disappear any time soon.
So for me, I’m trying to slowly learn how to use it in my workflow, or if it can aid my process or outcomes.”
“When AI first started making waves in the motion world, there were all these promises of its capabilities and a million LinkedIn posts telling us how we would all be out of a job in 6 months time.
Now that the initial hype has died down, we've seeing some genuinely useful tools appear - upscaling AI has saved a tonne in render time, using generative fill to quickly adapt HDRIs and material generators streamlining tedious tiling issues.”

“There's a line that I think each person has to decide for themselves on how they approach Al. You can either hand over the keys entirely or you can remain a purist of your particular process.
For now l’ll probably sit somewhere in the middle. l'lI use it enhance my workflow - if there are ways of automating the filing and formatting process I'm all in, but I'll keep the creative.”

“I think I can see the benefit of AI to speed up certain tasks but it will never be able ever compete with bespoke motion done by an actual human. Not worried about it but at the same time it's another tool for people who value quantity over quality.”
